Nelson Forests Ltd, a New Zealand forestry company managing 78,000 hectares of radiata pine and operating the Kaituna Sawmill, faced the challenge of maintaining a complex, compliance-driven operation with thousands of pieces of equipment. To improve uptime, reduce breakdowns and streamline maintenance across multiple processing areas, they implemented MEX maintenance software (including the MEX Ops, Stores module and MEX iOS apps).
MEX deployed a structured Asset Register covering about 6,000 assets, work order management, preventative maintenance policies, barcoded spare-parts inventory and an integrated purchasing system, all managed through MEX. As a result, Nelson Forests reports increased efficiency in tracking maintenance, simplified purchasing and stocktakes, improved scheduling and work-order performance, and significantly improved plant uptime with fewer breakdowns since adopting MEX.
