LumiGrow, a California-based innovator in smart horticultural lighting, faced critical scaling challenges. As they moved from pilot deployments to large greenhouses, their system experienced network overloads, with routers crashing from over 1,000 devices connecting simultaneously. They partnered with software development vendor MEV, LLC to build a robust IoT SaaS platform that could embed their scientific Daily Light Integral (DLI) algorithm and overcome these scalability bottlenecks.
MEV implemented a modular, event-driven IoT architecture featuring a self-healing Bluetooth mesh network for stable device communication and migrated the platform to AWS for reliability. This solution integrated LumiGrow's proprietary DLI algorithm to optimize lighting by crop type and sunlight. The partnership resulted in a 23x growth in users over three years, enabling scalable, fault-tolerant installations in large-scale greenhouses and strengthening LumiGrow’s market position through consolidated intellectual property.
