How Trice Imaging Gets Better Monitoring With Metricly

Trice Imaging, a medical devices and SaaS company, needed a better way to monitor its AWS-hosted environment than reactive alerts, custom scripts, and collectd-based monitoring. Lead Automation Engineer Kris Kumler wanted continuous monitoring with dynamic thresholds and leading indicators based on historical performance, time of day, and day of week, and he evaluated options including Metricly, Datadog, Graphite, and AWS CloudWatch.

Metricly provided Trice Imaging with continuous monitoring, configurable policies and alerts, and machine-learning “bands of normalcy” that enabled meaningful anomaly detection with less noise. The platform also let Trice use the same data for AWS utilization and cost reports, making capacity and right-sizing analysis easy to adopt; as a result, Trice gained more effective monitoring and visibility without hardcoded thresholds, helping reduce missed issues and supporting potential AWS cost savings.
