A Meteomatics Case Study
The University of Grenoble Alpes, a public research university in France, needed a source of high-resolution meteorological data to accurately model the impact of COVID-19 lockdowns on air pollution. The challenge was to create a "business as usual" pollution scenario for 2020 that accounted for specific weather conditions, which is difficult to acquire in an academic setting.
Meteomatics provided the university's researcher with quick access to its high-resolution weather data via its Weather API. This data was used to train a machine learning model that created an accurate synthetic "business as usual" dataset. The solution allowed the researcher to quantify that reduced traffic significantly lowered particulate matter concentrations at a traffic-sensitive site, providing key insights into the health impacts of different pollution sources.
