Successful Integration of Meteomatics Weather Data into Pi System Enables Numerous New Use Cases for OSIsoft Users

OSIsoft customers needed reliable, hyperlocal weather data integrated directly into their PI systems so operators could access process-relevant forecasts and multi-year historical weather archives for visualization and decision-making. The challenge was to provide 7-day forecasts and long-term storage of multiple weather parameters for energy-intensive sites (including very high-temperature regions) to improve operational efficiency and resource planning; Meteomatics supplied the high-quality weather data API used for this purpose.

Using the Meteomatics weather data API (integrated into OSIsoft’s PI system by systems integrator Actemium), the solution ingests forecasts and historical weather parameters into the PI data archive and displays them in PI Vision via reusable templates for rapid roll-out to additional sites. As a result, Meteomatics’ data enabled better prediction of cooling needs and energy consumption, improved resource planning and operational efficiency, increased planning reliability, reduced risk and delivered significant cost savings.
