NASA sharpens launch planning with Meteomatics’ 1 km weather model

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) required more precise weather forecasting for its launch and mission operations at the Wallops Flight Facility. To enhance safety and planning, NASA partnered with weather intelligence vendor Meteomatics to trial its high-resolution US1k weather model and its MetX forecasting software.

Meteomatics implemented its US1k model, which provides a resolution nine times higher than other leading solutions, offering a granular view of local weather phenomena. The solution, paired with the MetX platform for visualization, improved forecast reliability, saved time in the decision-making process, and enhanced the clarity of communications during mission briefings for the teams at NASA.
