More Efficient Building Automation Thanks to High-Quality Weather Data!

ITEC (Leicom ITEC AG) faced the challenge of improving building energy and heat management by integrating high‑quality, hyperlocal weather data into the Niagara building automation framework so heating systems could anticipate changing outdoor conditions and reduce waste, costs and CO2 emissions. To meet this need ITEC partnered with Meteomatics and targeted Meteomatics’ Weather API as the source of hyperlocal forecast data.

ITEC implemented the "ITEC Meteo Service" driver to pull Meteomatics’ forecasts (outdoor temperature, solar radiation, wind, snowfall, etc.) directly into building automation, enabling predictive control (important for systems with up to 8‑hour lead times) and measurable reductions in heating and electricity use. The integration with Meteomatics’ Weather API makes optimization simple and affordable (Meteomatics’ entry‑level API starts at 40 CHF/month), unlocking significant energy and CO2 savings in a sector that consumes some 45% of Switzerland’s primary energy.
