How Meteomatics Weather Data Fueled the Eclipse ETS Solar Car to Success

ETS, through its Eclipse ETS Solar Car team, competed in the 2024 Electrek American Solar Challenge, a demanding multi-day race from Missouri to Kansas where success depended on maximizing distance on solar power alone. To manage changing conditions and make efficient energy decisions, the team used Meteomatics weather data, especially solar radiation, wind speed, and wind direction, to plan strategy and speed throughout the race.

Meteomatics provided the high-resolution weather intelligence ETS needed to anticipate when the car would consume more energy or recharge more effectively, including several days of visibility into cloudy and rainy conditions. The result was a strong competitive performance: Eclipse ETS finished second overall. The team credited Meteomatics with helping them make small efficiency gains that added up significantly over eight days on the road.
