How BKW Benefits From the Meteomatics Weather API

BKW, a major Swiss energy company with over 3,300 MW installed capacity and roughly three-quarters of its mix from hydro, wind and solar, faced delays and inflexibility in obtaining site-specific weather data—sometimes waiting weeks for raw parameters such as precipitation, wind and temperature that are essential for production and trading forecasts. To solve this, BKW evaluated providers and selected Meteomatics and its Meteomatics Weather API for faster, more flexible access to weather information.

Meteomatics delivered a single API interface providing access to 1,800+ weather, environmental and water parameters across 25+ models (including ECMWF and UKMO), plus historical data and forecasts on demand. This replaced slow, request-based deliveries with on-demand access, cutting waiting times from weeks to immediate availability, enabling quicker product testing and innovation, lowering costs, and improving forecast quality—helping BKW integrate renewable energies more efficiently into the electricity market.
