Heimdall Power Increases Transmission Capacity of High-Voltage Power Lines by 25% on Average Using Weather Data from Meteomatics

Heimdall Power, a Norwegian technology company that builds industrial IoT Neuron sensors and the Heimdall Cloud AI platform for TSOs and DSOs, faced the challenge that weather is a primary driver of high-voltage line capacity and must be known in detail to prevent bottlenecks and enable dynamic, efficient grid operation. To meet this need, Heimdall Power integrated high-resolution weather data from Meteomatics (via the Meteomatics Weather API / Power Weather API) into its models and operational workflows.

By combining Meteomatics' real-time, high-detail weather data with Heimdall’s Neuron sensor telemetry and machine-learning models in Heimdall Cloud, Heimdall Power implemented dynamic line rating and predictive thermal/icing warnings to optimize transmission. The solution, powered by Meteomatics data, produced measurable results — on average a 25% increase in transmission capacity for high-voltage power lines — enabling better renewable integration and more efficient grid operation.
