Vodafone Netherlands, the Netherlands’ second-largest mobile operator, needed to launch LTE quickly without disrupting the voice experience for customers moving between 4G and 3G networks. The challenge was to phase in LTE voice services early, despite the lack of a standards-based way to synchronize subscriber data between 4G and 3G systems and the need to avoid service loss or costly legacy upgrades.

Metaswitch provided an Adaptable HLR/HSS Interface, an open and configurable signaling solution that integrated into Vodafone’s network and enabled consistent authentication data across both networks. With Metaswitch, Vodafone Netherlands could support a phased LTE voice rollout at low cost and low risk, reuse existing skills, avoid expensive HLR customization, and preserve the same service experience outside 4G coverage, helping speed deployment and prepare for future service evolution.
