A Metaswitch Case Study
Truphone, the corporate mobile provider founded in 2001, needed a way to deliver an outstanding international mobile experience with excellent call quality and local rates. The company faced the challenge of supporting patented, non-standard services that off-the-shelf NEP products could not handle, while also avoiding vendor lock-in, high customization fees, and long lead times. Metaswitch’s Rhino platform was used to meet these requirements.
Metaswitch implemented a uniquely customized, openly adaptable service layer on top of standard network equipment, enabling Truphone to create and extend services independently. The solution supported GSM, VoIP, and data services across 220 countries, while dynamic anti-tromboning and least-cost routing helped minimize call transit costs. The result was greater control over services, priorities, costs, and delivery timelines, alongside protection of Truphone’s intellectual property and reduced dependency on vendors.
