Telstra Global Enterprise and Services (GES), part of Telstra, needed to replace its existing international wholesale softswitch and several TDM switches across four global points of presence while meeting a very tight deadline driven by lease termination and building renovation constraints. After an RFP and proof of concept, Telstra selected Metaswitch and its softswitch/media gateway solution to support the migration from TDM to IP and enable a future multimedia-capable network.

Metaswitch implemented and flash-cut the new platform across Hong Kong, London, Newark, and Sydney in less than six months, including a move of one PoP, while also developing custom tools for routing, network management, and CDR conversion. The result was a stable, carrier-class international wholesale interconnection platform that survived peak Christmas traffic and positioned Telstra GES for ongoing IP growth and future communications services.
