Spark and Metaswitch Embrace Agile Methodology for Digital Transformation Using Metaswitch’s Programmable Rhino RAS

Spark New Zealand, the country’s leading digital services provider, needed to modernize its legacy voice and messaging environment as customers shifted to fibre, wireless broadband, and IP-based services. To support a business-wide digital transformation, Spark partnered with Metaswitch and selected the Metaswitch Rhino programmable, cloud-native Telephone Application Server (Rhino TAS) to help replace PSTN services and create new digital offerings.

Metaswitch worked with Spark using an agile, DevOps-style approach, with joint development teams building services in two-week sprints. The solution enabled Spark to launch and future-proof IMS-based voice services, speed up service creation and testing, and move toward a flexible, software-centric service layer with carrier-grade “five-nines” availability. Spark also gained in-house capability to own more development, reduce dependence on traditional vendor release cycles, and continue expanding new services on the Rhino platform.
