The Polish mobile operator Polkomtel (Plus) faced significant challenges in its evolution to an All-IP network. The company, which serves 14 million subscribers, needed to find a way for its GSM users to access new IP services and for IP users to access its profitable legacy IN services, all while avoiding high costs and the risk of its solution becoming obsolete. To meet these goals, Polkomtel partnered with vendor Metaswitch.

Metaswitch implemented a Converged Service Layer solution using IM-SSF and Reverse IM-SSF technology. This created a single service layer that bridged the IP and GSM networks, allowing all subscribers to access services from either domain without the need to recreate them. The solution provided multi-million dollar cost savings by eliminating redundant projects, shortened the time to create new services, and protected the operator's existing investments while enabling future innovation.
