StoragePoint Improves Operational Agility and Performance at Large Government Contractor

Large Government Contractor was struggling with a highly used SharePoint 2010 environment full of large, rapidly changing BLOBs (images, videos, etc.), which inflated database size, slowed page loads and extended backup windows. To address this, the customer deployed Metalogix Software’s StoragePoint to externalize BLOBs from SharePoint content databases to cheaper file-share storage.

Metalogix Software’s StoragePoint was installed as a native SharePoint solution and configured to externalize BLOBs to a NAS-backed file share; the content database shrank from 2.93 GB to under 100 MB, reclaiming expensive SQL storage (>90% storage savings), page load times fell from ~4 seconds to <1 second, and SQL/SharePoint backups dropped from ~40 minutes to ~3 minutes. Additional benefits included storage-array deduplication, eliminating the need to back up ~90% of the farm and simplified farm maintenance; the customer subsequently adopted StoragePoint enterprise-wide.
