Chesapeake Energy faced rapidly growing SharePoint 2007 content databases that were becoming difficult to manage and needed at least a 75% reduction in database size without impacting out‑of‑the‑box SharePoint functionality or the end‑user experience. The company engaged Metalogix Software and evaluated the Metalogix StoragePoint solution to externalize BLOBs and control storage growth while preserving all existing SharePoint behaviors.

Metalogix Software installed and configured StoragePoint in Chesapeake’s environment, externalized unstructured BLOB data to the SAN, and shrank the SQL content database—completing the proof of concept in two days. The result was a reduction from 149 GB to 2.6 GB (a 98.1% decrease), no loss of functionality, noticeably faster document operations, and improved crawl performance (full crawl time reduced to 4 hours 49 minutes versus the ~7 hours they previously spent on incremental crawls).
