Becker & Poliakoff, a multi-office law firm with about 380 employees and 800 mailboxes, was struggling with a bloated Exchange 2003 environment (the store had swelled to roughly 278 GB and average mailboxes were 9.6 GB, with some as large as 45 GB) and needed an archiving solution before migrating to Exchange 2010. The firm evaluated several options and selected Metalogix Software’s Metalogix Archive Manager — Exchange Edition to meet requirements for ease of use, Outlook access, drag-and-drop message handling, and folder replication.

Metalogix Software implemented Archive Manager on SAN using lower-cost SATA storage, piloting top users before expanding licensing to archive all mailboxes. After archiving 140 mailboxes the firm saw a 45% reduction in those users’ email repository (nearly 800 GB) and removed over 5 million emails in about two and a half weeks; it also instituted an archive-then-purge retention policy (purging items older than six months), reduced Exchange footprint, boosted system performance, and accelerated the upcoming Exchange 2010 migration.
