Case Study: Kula Project (nonprofit) achieves real-time impact visualization and stakeholder reporting with Metabase

A Metabase Case Study

Preview of the Kula Case Study

Kula and Standard Co team up to empower female entrepreneurs with Metabase

Kula, a nonprofit running a 15-month business fellowship in Rwanda to develop women entrepreneurs, needed a way to aggregate, visualize, and communicate program impact over time. With help from Standard Co, Kula implemented Metabase dashboards and analytics to track baseline and exit survey data, daily training metrics, and stakeholder reporting without expensive or device-restricted BI tools.

Metabase was used to build realtime, mobile-accessible dashboards connected to Kula’s Standard Data (MySQL) so mentors could log training and leadership outcomes and the team could subscribe partners to regular reports. That visibility helped Kula demonstrate clear results — more than 600 entrepreneurs trained, 135 new businesses, 10,000 training hours, a 38% increase in coffee yield (35% income gain), a 37% rise in confident decision‑making and a 17% drop in unwanted pregnancies — while making it easy to spot trends and share progress with donors and partners.
