Barking is an Estonian peer-to-peer parking startup with an iPhone and Android app that connects drivers to over 10,000 parking spaces in six countries (35,000+ sessions per month, 2,500+ active users). After a TV launch that generated over 4,000 sign-ups, Barking’s existing SMS provider failed to handle the verification volume and used a prepaid model that shut off service when funds were depleted, breaking phone verification and carrier billing. Barking needed a scalable SMS and verification partner, and turned to Messente for messaging and user verification APIs.

Messente provided global messaging and user verification APIs (coverage across ~190 countries and ~800 mobile networks), a post-paid billing option, and included support. Barking uses Messente for phone number verification to enable carrier billing, SMS marketing to announce new locations, and SMS fallback to open gates via modem with delivery reports. The solution removed the risk of outages from prepaid limits, handled launch and ongoing volumes, improved conversion via SMS communications, and has supported Barking’s continued expansion with Messente as their messaging partner.
