Sun Life Financial, a leading international financial services company, needed to make its workplace defined‑contribution retirement plan statements more informative and motivating after employer feedback showed only 5% were “very satisfied” that employees read statements and just 9% were “strongly satisfied” that statements motivated decisions or promoted the employer brand. To address this, Sun Life Financial engaged Messagepoint to redesign its member communications using Messagepoint’s Integrated Approach and the Messagepoint® software platform to create the new "my statement."
Messagepoint delivered a personalized, research‑driven redesign—using first‑person headers, color, icons, plain‑language copy, targeted educational tips and HP Exstream prototypes tested in production—to improve readability and member engagement and to allow employers to deliver tailored guidance. The new my statement, produced and deployed with Messagepoint, was ranked #1 in financial services by DALBAR’s 2008 Defined Contribution Pension Plan Trends and Best Practices and won the Canadian Marketing Association Lettermail Award (2008), demonstrating measurable improvement in communication quality and recognition for the solution.
