Bricks and mortar retailer makes successful move online with help from SMS

Lollyology is a family-run specialty chocolate and confectionery shop in Westfield Knox, Australia that relied almost entirely on foot traffic. When COVID-19 cut store visits by about 75% (even as average sale size rose ~40%), owner Greg Smith needed to get online fast to move $30K of seasonal Easter stock. Working with Sinch MessageMedia, Lollyology paired a quickly built Shopify store with Sinch MessageMedia’s SMS service to focus on local marketing and same-area delivery.

Using personalized SMS broadcasts through Sinch MessageMedia, the team collected ~100 customer numbers in four days (more than 90% willingly signed up, opt-outs stayed below 2.5%) and saw immediate website activity—about 10% of recipients visited within five minutes of a message, with roughly 7–8% converting to purchase and only ~3% dropping off. While Easter sales were still down (56% year-over-year; April down 65%), SMS helped move about 20% of in-store stock in the lead-up, drove quick promotions, and turned walk-in customers into repeat online buyers.
