Case Study: University of Utah Health expands emergency volunteer training and certification with Merit

A Merit Case Study

Preview of the University of Utah Health Case Study

Bringing valuable training opportunities to students & emergency response volunteers

The University of Utah Health sought to improve how it connected emergency response volunteers with online CERT training and manage their digital certification records. Their challenge was overcoming ineffective paper-based systems and manual processes that made it difficult to track personnel hours during crises. They partnered with Merit and its verified identity platform to address this.

Merit's solution enabled the university to match volunteers with online courses and automatically issue digital credentials, or "merits," upon completion. This technology also made students aware of expanded opportunities for additional certifications and events. As a result, volunteers could more easily discover free, relevant training, allowing them to better serve their communities. Merit's platform provided the agile digital record-keeping the university required.
