Gelderse Vallei strengthens procurement transparency and contract control with Mercell across 3,000 employees

Gelderse Vallei Hospital, a regional hospital in the Netherlands with 3,000 employees, sought to increase transparency and involvement in its procurement and contract management processes. The purchasing department, led by Remco Lagerweij and Youssef Razza, faced challenges with unclear workflows and a lack of centralized information. Their goal was to move away from opaque, email-driven processes and local files to better engage users and justify their purchasing decisions. To address this, they implemented Mercell's cloud-based software.

Using Mercell's platform, the hospital centralized its entire purchasing file and contract management, granting specific access rights to involved parties. This provided greater transparency, control, and ownership. The solution automated notifications for expiring contracts and certificates, enabled immediate verification of invoices against agreements, and introduced KPI dashboards to measure supplier performance. As a result, Gelderse Vallei gained more control over its processes, prevented hidden costs, and improved its accreditation readiness. The Mercell implementation has been so successful that other departments within the hospital have taken notice and shown interest in adopting the system.
