A Mendix Case Study
Texas Life, the oldest Texas‑domiciled life insurer managing roughly 700,000 policies, set out to modernize customer service and internal operations after relying on a legacy policy system and paper‑based workflows. With a small team of business‑first developers, the company needed an intuitive, agile platform that could support multi‑device access, rewrite core legacy applications, digitize complex insurance workflows, and deliver customer and broker self‑service portals with minimal risk and disruption.
After a successful Mendix proof of concept, Texas Life adopted Mendix, established a center of excellence and used Scrum to rapidly deliver visual, collaborative applications and built‑in workflow modeling (microflows). Results include a live customer portal that reduced contact‑center demand without expanding staff, web front ends for anywhere/any‑device access, plans for mobile and broker/employer portals, avoidance of a separate BPM purchase, and a standardized development stack (Mendix and Python) that speeds delivery and digitizes hundreds of workflows across core business areas.
