Solomon Group Quickly Delivers an IoT Event Management Solution

Solomon Group, an award-winning entertainment design and production firm, faced a practical crowd-control challenge at large events like the Essence Festival: the free daytime component filled to capacity early, and they needed an accurate, real-time count of people entering and leaving to satisfy the fire marshal and manage long lines — something that couldn’t be tracked manually.

They built custom optical turnstiles with in/out sensors that push data via REST into a Mendix app (a first version delivered in about a week), then added RFID wristband scanners and an iPad app for access control. The system provides real-time visualizations used at events including Essence and Coachella to prevent counterfeit access, optimize staffing, food & beverage orders and sponsor placement, and has become a valued service and potential new revenue stream for clients.
