Schiphol Airport Empowers Workforce with Native Mobile Applications

Amsterdam Airport Schiphol — one of Europe’s busiest hubs — relied on floormanagers to handle everything from passenger guidance to incident response, but their tools were fragmented (paper, phone calls, and multiple systems). Working with Ordina and Mendix, Schiphol set out to build a consumer-grade native mobile app focused on user-centric design, clear value, and strong UX to streamline incident reporting and day-to-day operations.

The Mendix-built app “Schiphol Today” lets floormanagers log incidents from any device in about 90 seconds, including photos, exact locations, and contact details. The result: faster, data-driven operations with managers staying on the floor, reduced admin, higher job satisfaction, and the ability to adapt rapidly (changes deployed in a single sprint during COVID), paving the way for more low-code improvements across the airport.
