A Mendix Case Study
Rabobank’s International Direct Banking (IDB) unit — part of the Netherlands-based cooperative Rabobank known for its focus on sustainability, food, and agriculture — needed to modernize legacy systems and meet rising customer expectations while constrained by tight budgets and a small development team. Faced with heavy regulation, onboarding abandonment in markets like Germany and Belgium, and competition from fintech and Big Tech, IDB had to deliver a secure, multichannel banking experience (web and native mobile) without a large engineering organization.
Working with Finaps and leveraging Sopra’s API-first core plus Mendix low-code, Rabobank built a containerized, composable stack and a modular presentation layer that enabled digital identity verification, an optimized staged onboarding flow, and an offline-first native mobile app. The result: five major customer touchpoints delivered by just 3–5 interchangeable engineers, a banking base of 500,000 users, a 4.7 rating in both app stores, faster iteration on feedback, and dramatically reduced onboarding and verification times.
