A Mendix Case Study
ProRail, the Dutch government–appointed organization that maintains 6,800 km of national railway and plans allocation and traffic control 52 hours in advance, was facing a growing backlog of business requests and a proliferation of Shadow IT. With mission-critical core systems and high regulatory stakes, the IT team needed a faster, more reliable way to deliver office-automation applications and regain influence over business processes.
ProRail adopted the Mendix platform, built a solution-oriented supplier team, and shifted from waterfall to agile/DevOps to develop reusable, fit-for-purpose apps. In five years they delivered 37 platform apps, reduced single-purpose applications from 150 to 105 (with 25 running on the platform), accelerated time-to-value, and cut development hours by fivefold, yielding significant operational efficiencies and closer alignment between IT and the business.
