Octo is a Netherlands-based smart-building solutions provider founded to solve the data overload that comes with managing hundreds or thousands of properties. The team—originally consultants working in slow, brittle spreadsheets—needed a way to extract and analyze publicly available images and property data (roof type, window count, façade condition, etc.) at scale because manual checks and conditional-statement–heavy workflows were impractical.

They built a low-code front end on Mendix and a data-and-AI stack on AWS, using Matillion, Redshift, S3, SageMaker and open-source libraries (PyTorch/TensorFlow) for image recognition and ML-driven annotation. The platform delivers hundreds of actionable data points across large portfolios, enabling client queries and map views (Google Maps API), cutting development time dramatically and helping customers optimize space and maintenance—previous projects saved clients up to 10% in rental costs.
