A Mendix Case Study
Canada Post and PostNL, two centuries-old postal operators, faced a steep decline in letter mail (from about 8 billion to 3.2 billion pieces over a decade) and needed to pivot quickly into parcel delivery. Both companies were constrained by legacy systems, limited software engineering capacity and traditional waterfall cultures that couldn’t scale to meet fast-growing parcel volumes and new market competitors.
They adopted low-code (Mendix), microservices, and a shift to agile/DevOps to rebuild core logistics and addressing systems and change ways of working. PostNL replatformed its supply‑chain to handle roughly 10 million transactions per day, delivered about 250 million parcels (a double‑digit increase year over year) and launched a tracking app used by 4.5 million users; Canada Post refactored its address system, accelerated agile delivery and grew its parcel business by about 25% year over year.
