A Mendix Case Study
BAM, the Netherlands’ largest construction company (27,000 employees, €7.48bn revenue), faced pressure from digital-first disruptors and a government mandate to install smart meters nationwide. The smart meter tender required both large-scale field installation and orchestration software—something a competing software vendor could offer but couldn’t deliver end-to-end without subcontracting the installation work—forcing BAM to rapidly add software capability or lose the contract.
Using the Mendix low-code platform, BAM built an end-to-end offering (BOP2 / BAM Road Solution) and rapid prototypes like Cash‑U (MVP in days) to support order-to-installation workflows, scheduling, field enablement and live budget controls. The approach won the 1.2 million smart meter contract, unlocked six-figure annual savings (MAX: ~€160k/year), sped time-to-value across projects, and helped BAM transform into a digital-native organization that attracts software talent.
