Kuehne + Nagel’s Portal Reduces Administrative Workload to Focus on Adding Value for Customers

Kuehne + Nagel Logistics, a global contract logistics provider, was tasked by Unilever to improve lead times and order-processing accuracy so retailers consistently receive promised deliveries on time. The challenge was to reconcile pending orders with available stock across complex warehouse systems and allocate shortages according to strict fulfillment priorities—an effort that needed to be achieved quickly and without adding errors or manual overhead.

Kuehne + Nagel and CAPE Groep built a stand-alone, Mendix-based Order Management Portal that integrates with existing WMSs and EDI feeds to automate stock-allocation using configurable business rules and an audit trail. Delivered in six months and on budget, the portal returns provisional allocations to Unilever for confirmation, sharply reduces time from final order to pick start, enables layer-based picking automation, and has already improved delivery times with further gains expected as allocation becomes fully automated.
