Koc University Delivers a Better Faculty and Student Experience

Koç University, a top-ranked non-profit research university in Istanbul, faced slow, manual processes and rapidly changing needs: procurement was handled with Excel and email under strict regulations, and the campus needed a way to manage COVID safety, building capacity and communications while integrating data from legacy systems. The IT organization also required a platform that could adapt quickly as requirements evolved and tie together disparate systems like SAP and PeopleSoft.

Using Mendix low-code, the team built a suite of apps — including a procurement application (delivered in six months), a COVID safety portal, and a university portal with a mobile app — backed by microservices and integrations (SAP, Azure AD, government APIs). The result: an automated, user-friendly procurement workflow, safer campus reopening for thousands of students, faster delivery and iteration of features, rapid onboarding of junior developers, and an improved overall experience for faculty and students.
