A Mendix Case Study
ISS, a global leader in facilities management with more than 532,000 employees, faced a costly productivity problem: frontline workers were spending time inspecting status-based tasks (like mousetraps, coffee stations, and soap dispensers) that were empty over 70% of the time. With labor costs central to profitability, ISS sought ways to apply IT to collect missing data and streamline service delivery across its large, distributed workforce.
ISS deployed inexpensive long-life wireless sensors and used the Mendix platform to build ISIFM, an app that aggregates sensor data via local gateways, routes alerts over the mobile network, and assigns tasks to the nearest workers using smartphone GPS. Built by a small team in about two weeks, the solution reduced unnecessary inspections, accelerated SLAs, improved customer satisfaction, delivered significant first-year savings in pilot markets, helped win new clients, and is being positioned for broader international rollout.
