Hortilux Drives Business Transformation with IoT-Enabled Geenhouses

Hortilux, a global leader in greenhouse grow light solutions, wanted to move beyond selling fixtures to offering value-added services that help growers increase yield per m2. To stay competitive and improve customer engagement, the company needed to use IoT and sensor data to optimize system availability and lifetime, reduce energy costs, and turn performance data into actionable insight.

Working with Mendix and partner First Consulting, Hortilux built HortiSense — an IoT-enabled platform that combines greenhouse OT (sensors, PLCs, actuators) with IT on AWS and Mendix-built apps for asset, maintenance, light and crop-yield management. HortiSense enabled predictive maintenance, real-time light and power monitoring, and automated light strategies, cutting service costs, extending equipment life, strengthening customer relationships and retention, and transforming Hortilux from a product seller into a total solution provider.
