A Mendix Case Study
Trane Technologies, a global leader in residential and commercial HVAC with ~50,000 employees and $12.5B in 2020 revenue, faced a legacy IT challenge: a 15-year-old, monolithic e-commerce system, widespread “shadow IT” (Excel and unsanctioned tools) and the need to evaluate low-code vs no-code vendors that could scale across diverse enterprise use cases and architectures.
Trane adopted Mendix as its enterprise low-code platform, using a Strangler Fig approach to split the monolith into microservices and starting with medium-sized, high-impact projects. The platform’s built-in DevOps, monitoring and governance tools brought shadow IT into the fold, reduced the need for dedicated ops staff, accelerated delivery of e‑commerce, sales and Excel-replacement apps, and freed IT teams to focus on innovation—delivering faster ROI and greater operational flexibility.
