Dutch Protestant Church Digitizes Member Registration and Fund Administration

The Dutch Protestant Church, serving 2.1 million members across more than 1,200 local congregations and thousands of volunteers and ministers, needed a flexible Member Registration System to centralize membership, financial and pastoral administration. After a costly failure customizing an HRM, the church faced challenges including integration with hundreds of local systems, support for up to 10,000 concurrent users, and multi-level security and privacy requirements.

Built on the Mendix platform using an agile, iterative approach, the custom solution delivered a secure, role-based, easy-to-use application (with features like Google Maps) tuned for incidental users and volunteers. The system improved registration and pastoral support, connected disparate administrators, trained some 15,000 users, processes high volumes (about 600,000 mutations/year and up to 2,000,000 payments/month), won an iCMG security award, and reduced maintenance costs by over $1 million per year.
