Norsk Hydro is a global aluminium and energy company with ~34,000 employees and more than USD 16.6 billion in revenue that needed to digitize a wide range of custom, process-heavy workflows across mining, manufacturing and energy operations. Facing legacy paper trails, shadow IT, and the need to integrate with core systems like SAP, Hydro’s IT organization sought a faster, more flexible way to replace manual processes and fragmented tools.

Hydro GBS adopted Mendix low-code to build a portfolio of more than 70 applications in about five years, delivering solutions from a capital-expenditure app (built in five weeks vs. eight months previously) to digital safety permits, a master registry as a single source of truth, native mobile proof-of-delivery, and maintenance inspection tools. The results include dramatically faster delivery, reduced paper and complaints, improved data visibility and collaboration, and ongoing cost savings—giving Hydro a scalable, extensible platform to modernize more processes.
