AZL, one of the Netherlands' leading pension providers managing over 60 pension funds and more than 1 million participants, faced shifting customer expectations and the need to modernize quickly. After launching an administrative portal for employers in 2012, AZL wanted to extend self‑service to pension participants but needed a fast, flexible way to deliver a standard solution that could be adapted to each fund’s unique processes.

AZL selected the Mendix application platform to rapidly build a user‑friendly participant portal that can be tailored per fund. The Mendix-based approach shortened time‑to‑market, provided the flexibility to meet changing business requirements, and improved service by giving participants timely insight into their retirement.
