Caris Life Sciences, a leader in advanced tumor profiling that helps oncologists personalize cancer care, faced mounting demand for new applications and two major app rewrites while relying on a limited Java development team. Skilled Java developers were scarce and new hires needed 90–120 days to get up to speed, leaving IT unable to meet business timelines or scale quickly.

Caris augmented its Java capabilities with the Mendix low-code platform and established a Mendix center of excellence of five trained developers to build modular, scalable applications. They modernized the physician portal and research registry, now deliver most apps in weeks or days, cut an NCCN data reconciliation task from ~40 hours to 15 minutes nightly, improved tumor-sample tracking, and gained the agility to better support clinicians and patients.
