A Mendix Case Study
When The Boston Globe was sold by The New York Times in 2013 it needed to separate quickly from its former owner’s IT systems. Treating the breakaway as an opportunity, the Globe adopted the Mendix application platform to rapidly deliver dozens of apps that support unique workflows across its newsroom, advertising and finance teams.
Using Mendix, the Globe rebuilt key processes far faster and with far smaller teams: a legacy Lotus Notes corrections app that once took over a month was rebuilt in five days; an ad-imaging tool was created by one developer in 20 days; and a freelance-management system for 500+ contributors was delivered by two developers in 30 days versus a year with a larger staff under the previous owner. The platform made development faster and easier, turning IT into an enabler and change agent.
