Case Study: AZL achieves a frictionless, agile pension customer experience with Mendix

A Journey through Low-Code and Agile Development with AZL

AZL is a Dutch pension fund administrator serving 50 funds, 13,000 employers and 1.5 million participants (about 10% of the country). Facing complex, paper-heavy pension decisions and the need for a flexible, multi-tenant solution, AZL sought a way to simplify participant interactions and speed development while maintaining the robustness required for core systems.

Partnering with Bizzomate and using Mendix low-code, AZL adopted more agile practices to build multi-tenant customer, participant and employee portals, including a retirement planner with scenario comparisons and automated notifications. Launched in October 2020, the portal cut paperwork and phone inquiries, improved communication and testing cadence, and earned industry recognition (including a Mendix World CX nomination), while enabling faster iteration and closer business–IT collaboration.
