Northvolt, a company building sustainable battery cells and systems, faced a challenge in securely managing operating system updates for its IoT gateways. Their reliance on cloud technology was insufficient, as public cloud providers lacked a robust way to handle these updates without risking device failure or "bricking."

Mender provided the solution with its over-the-air update service, which uses an A/B partition design for reliable rollbacks. This enabled Northvolt to perform secure, "brick-free" updates to IoT devices in factories and in the field. By using Mender Enterprise, Northvolt benefits from features like delta updates to save bandwidth, device groups for targeted deployments, and the ability to perform secure offline updates in remote locations.
