gridX, a digital and decentralized energy supplier, required a robust and efficient over-the-air (OTA) update solution for their gridBox IoT devices. Their challenge was to move away from prohibitively expensive manual USB updates to a system that could quickly deploy new features, bug fixes, and security patches across their entire fleet, all while avoiding vendor lock-in with an open-source solution.

gridX selected Mender for its end-to-end open-source platform, which provided atomic updates with automated rollback to prevent bricked devices. The solution's integration with the Yocto Project and its RESTful API allowed for easy extensibility and fleet-wide management. By implementing Mender, gridX eliminated the need for manual, one-to-one updates, saving significant engineering time and gaining the confidence to deploy updates reliably.
