A MemSQL Case Study
Tapjoy, a mobile advertising and app-monetization company, needed a horizontally scalable, ACID-compliant, MySQL-compatible database to handle heavy analytics and financial aggregations. After an initial pilot, they built a MemSQL cluster, shadow-wrote data to it, and put it through comprehensive load and latency tests to validate real-world performance.
MemSQL was chosen and tested under 20x stress with 2x more historical data than the legacy system; results showed dramatic improvements: summing a financial data point for a single partner fell from 68s to 1.23s (55x faster), summing the entire platform for a month fell from 28 minutes to 1.1s (1527x faster), and listing recent distinct customers dropped from 24s to 3s (8x faster). MemSQL met Tapjoy’s requirements and won the head-to-head load tests.
