Areeba Uses MemSQL for Fraud Detection, AML Compliance, and More

Areeba, a payments innovator spun out of Bank Audi, serves multiple banks across the Middle East and Africa with card loyalty programs and e‑commerce gateway services. Facing growing risks from fraud and money laundering and limitations of its Hadoop/MariaDB stack, Areeba needed to move beyond daily, reactive checks to real‑time transaction monitoring and to deliver personalized, up‑to‑the‑moment product recommendations.

To meet those needs Areeba added MemSQL (now SingleStore) alongside Apache Spark to provide translytical processing on large datasets (hundreds of millions of authorizations, ~100GB tables). The new platform delivers much faster analytics on continually updated data, enabling near‑real‑time fraud/AML detection and real‑time, predictive offer recommendations, with significant performance improvements and a foundation for further innovation in cloud and payments technologies.
