A Low-tech Approach to Engage Postpartum Parents of Color

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists faced a critical challenge in addressing the disproportionately high rates of maternal mortality and postpartum depression among parents of color, exacerbated by a lack of accessible and continuous support following hospital discharge. To combat this, they partnered with Memora Health to implement its SMS-based postpartum support program.

Memora Health's solution provided 24/7 text-based support, delivering reminders, screenings, and anticipatory guidance. The program achieved a 97% completion rate, automatically triaged over 70% of patient messages, and identified 25% of patients as at-risk for postpartum depression. Critically, the solution proved to be a great equalizer, with data showing patients of color and those on public insurance reported statistically significant higher satisfaction rates than their counterparts.
