Universidade NOVA de Lisboa - Customer Case Study

Universidade NOVA de Lisboa faced the problem that translation technology was siloed in a single first‑year course while most teachers and students lacked ongoing access to CAT tools, so learned skills were not sustained through the degree. To change this, lecturers David Hardisty and Marco Neves worked with memoQ and its Academic Program to move from short training sessions to embedding the tool across the translation curriculum.

memoQ supplied student licenses and local installs, and the faculty required students to build semester‑by‑semester portfolios (translation memories, termbases, LiveDocs, scanned texts) and present them at the end of the degree. With memoQ support and hands‑on tutoring, students now use memoQ across the full three years, produce tangible portfolios that demonstrate sustained competency, and—when they pass the portfolio review—receive recommendation letters to support freelance or in‑house employment.
