A Meltwater Case Study
The Muhammad Ali Center is a multicultural museum and community center dedicated to preserving Muhammad Ali’s legacy. When news of his passing generated more than 22,000 mentions, the small PR team was overwhelmed: they relied on hours of manual searching, a 15‑year personal journalist list, and had no efficient way to quantify PR value for the board or respond to global coverage in real time.
By adopting Meltwater, the team gained daily alerts, ad‑hoc searches, keyword filters and ICM to identify relevant journalists and influencers, plus dashboards and exportable event reports. The tools saved time, enabled targeted pitching (rather than contacting all 2,000 reporters), delivered real‑time responses and board‑ready earned‑media metrics—boosting the Center’s global visibility during the spike in coverage (a few days later UPS awarded a half‑million‑dollar education grant).
